My daughter begins high school next week.
And as she does, the Federal government and the various state governments continue to trumpet their triumphs in their so-called Building the Education Revolution plan. As yet, I’ve seen no revolution from this program, and little evolution. Mostly just reactionary, frightened implementation of the laptops for high schoolers program [...]

My keynote from GOVIS 2009 – User Centred Government: More than meets the eye.
Public engagement. Public empowerment.
View more presentations from Stephen Collins.

The GOVIS tag line is “Connect. Share. Learn.”
So my first question is where is the conference wifi network for all of us to connect? It’s a must have for every conference these days.
Why are [...]

This short essay is my presentation at the inaugural The Public Sphere to be hosted by Senator Kate Lundy at the ANU on 7 May 2009.
Despite living in one of a relatively few nations with compulsory suffrage, the electorate largely remains woefully uninformed about the political process – how elections actually work, the difference between [...]

Just this weekend, a major event took place in Washington DC – Government 2.0 Camp. It brought together 500 thinkers and doers who seek to engage and transform government in such a way as to make the executive and legislature more open and responsive, more engaged with the public and to ensure that the public, [...]

I couldn’t agree more.
My views on the ongoing failure [...]

This is why politics in America is such a hot subject. Passionate, statesmanlike speakers with a real message of change and hope. Beyond that, inspiring others to participate and get the message out. Will.I.Am of the Black-Eyed Peas has put together something special here – I’ve watched it several times and still choke up. It’s [...]

Government of any color will never learn – they’re not interested enough in the Internet and its technology to really understand the futility of this at a technical level. Yesterday’s announcement verifying the Australian Federal Government will be mandatorily requiring ISPs to filter the nastiness from the ‘Net is plain and simple stupidity. [...]

Tomorrow, we have a Federal election in Australia, and it’s looking like there will be a change of government. The public mood indicates a desire for change and if we get one, I think it will be for the better. That said, there’s so little difference these days with the main notional Left and notional [...]
