05.21.08What a difference a week makesThe past two weeks, I've attended two one-day (well, one evening and an all-day) conferences that couldn't have been further apart in the reaction they drew from me. The first was Interesting South on 12 May and then on Monday this week, Web Directions South Government. Both conferences were run extremely professionally by great teams. 04.14.08KM should just beUPDATE - I've added some more thoughts. I couldn't help myself. There's a really interesting discussion on KM and 2.0 tools going on over at the FASTForward blog. I've managed to get myself involved and am probably preaching a little KM heresy. I personally think KM need not be an identified, explicit practice in organisations. It should just be. 02.04.08The 2020 SummitOver the weekend, Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, announced the 2020 Summit to address challenges facing Australia. In an encouraging move, Leader of the Opposition, Brendan Nelson has thrown his party's support behind the summit. It appears that in 2008, bipartisanship has a chance of functioning! At least on this issue. This would appear to be an amazing opportunity for some of our leading thinkers and doers to take part in something that could really mess with inertia and the status quo. 01.30.08A “just do it” approach to IT projects in governmentOver the years, I've been involved in a lot of IT projects for government. Inevitably, they involve long timelines and huge investments that are driven by a supposedly robust governance framework. Trouble is, significant numbers of these projects never get finished, or launch feature-incomplete, or simply fail.
