I use Twitter to discuss my work - and to help me solve problems (that I can't work out) that I may otherwise have to go to a forum and wait for answers for. It's been quite helpful and has delivered several business opportunities for my company at the same time. So I say overall it has been really helpful to my business goals/function.

I use Twitter to publicize my blog (<a href="http://thenoisychannel.com/" rel="nofollow">The Noisy Channel</a>), engage my employer's customers, and more broadly to participate in conversations with people who share interests in search and social media. It's a bit early for me to calculate an ROI, but it feels very much for me like the early days of blogging--the first step is to cultivate a reputation by contributing, and then the returns come in the form of personal branding.
