I have mostly worked in short term work with a wide variety of clients. Sometimes you don't get to see things through to completion but you don't also get a stonewall from management based on fear, inertia, and just sticking with the vanilla old familiar. All the best.

@Stephen

sounds like my decision to leave a safe university job to work for a private education provider ("glacial speed" - ain't that the truth) for pretty much the same reasons. the only downside is the lack of resources (read: splashing truckloads of tax-payer money around)

go for it mate, follow those dreams - life's too short. What's the worst that can happen? some ups and down and you might go hungry for a bit at some stage? that beats having regrets...

Congratulations on having the courage to pursue what you believe in.

Heh: those senior managers are right; it is risky. To them. These technologies and approaches are utterly disruptive of top-down control. Change happens at glacial speed. Better to step outside and work where people are receptive.

Good luck! Sounds a bit risky focussing on short-term contracts, especially in your industry where it seems few people understand what you and the value you bring to organisations; I have to admit I don't entirely understand what you do! But I entirely understand wanting to do what you want to do rather than what narrow-minded control freaks want :-)
