Power to the people

in speaking

Here’s the deck I presented at the IIM National Conference yesterday. It’s a look at the shift in the nature of KM, knowledge work and knowledge workers and what their organisations can do to make their own and their employees’ lives easier.

For those reading via feed who can’t see the embed, here’s a link.
The presentation went over really well. It’s always good when passionate but friendly discussion takes place after you give a presentation. It’s even better when you have audience members approach you and let you know that they were delighted to see a more visual, story-focussed presentation.

The presentation was videoed and recorded, so some time soom, I’ll have access to audio. In the meantime, if you’d like my speaking notes, I’m more than happy to give them to you if you leave a comment asking for them.

Stephen,

Fantastic presentation. You’ve done a great job of communicating the knowledge management problem and what can be gained by opening communication and tearing down walled gardens. I’d be interested to know how the audience received this presentation.

Now I understand why I feel so uninspired. How can a KW change their environment when the environment does not understand it needs changing? I need your notes to understand more of what is missing in my KW world. I how I can change my little corner. I write little tools to help me work better, but others around me don’t want to use them because they are not polished and have quirks that only a geek like me would let pass.

This is wonderfully done and I love the fact that the slides are pictures rather than powerpoint bullets! Recently in my circles we’ve been talking about how work is changing – how it must change – for us to be effective. There’s more to service delivery than just service delivery. Where do we learn? How do we contribute? Being part of an online community is work. Learning is work. Producing content is work. Supporting each other in our work, is work.

Stephen, I’d love the audio or transcript to help me get even clearer .
