Oh, that most of the clients I deal with understood this rather than “design and (non-)decision-making by committee”…
Dion Hinchcliffe’s Product Development 2.0 notion is something that seems completely intuitive and natural to me - it’s very much Getting Real. It feels like the right process for the type of work I want to do. There must be companies out there working this way, they are just hard to find. Most of the client base I see are hidebound and wrapped up in committee-driven decision-making, lengthy paper specifications, and long project cycles.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that these projects don’t come through successfully. They do. It’s just the process that drives me nuts.
When you try to expose the clients and management to the 2.0 way, they shrink in doubt and fear. They are so tied to old-school project management that they fear change. I know and understand that driving this change takes an epiphany on the part of whoever it is you’re trying to convince and that the whole value proposition needs to be given to them in their terms. I’m just struggling with how to do that and could really use some advice or guidance.
Where are the web development companies that get to work like this and how do I contact them?
