Should I? Shouldn’t I?

Back in the day, I played a lot of roleplaying games. And now I don’t. Not that I don’t still love them dearly, but I have other priorities – family, work, teaching my Rhee Taekwondo class…

So, I have a bookshelf full of RPG stuff, all in top condition, not to mention many (manymanymanymanymanymanymanymany, etc., certainly > 200) painted (which I got prizes for at various cons) and unpainted 25mm scale miniatures. It’s all just sitting there, doing pretty much nothing. I’m really tempted to reap the rewards of my years of collecting and sell it all on eBay.

There’s stuff there that would have to sell well. It’s mostly 1st and 2nd Edition AD&D (and I mean early 1st Edition – the full set of the S series of modules, a complete set of Dragonlance originals, lots of others), with some Cyberpunk, Pendragon, Nephilim, Call of Cthulhu, Ars Magica and Chill (and maybe some other stuff) in the mix.

What do you think?

Same problem here :) I still can’t decide what to do with that…

Just a thought-

Divide all items into three groups: good, better, best. Then commit to selling on ebay, one half of each group. After you have sold the first half, you can decide what you want to do with the second half.

Sell everything you don’t have a nostalgic attachment for in order to make room for more new stuff. The industry has really come a long way in terms of mechanics since you were active. Some of the D&D stuff has been streamlined to the point where you can almost play it with the same committment that you would have to a simple board game.

Check out the D&D miniatures. They’re plastic, they’re inexpensive, many can survive being stepped on without dammage. Open the box and you’re ready to play. They are collectible, so there is a pretty good secondary market on eBay for them right now if you decide you’re not interested.

Friend of mine who actually grew up in like… Michigan or wherever a lot of the roleplaying stuff got started just put 2 box fulls of books on at eBay to sell. I play maybe once every 2 years, so that alone justifies keeping my stash, but he hadn’t really played in decades. When I was going through his stuff, while I laughed at the level of artwork the first edition stuff had, I still wanted to own it for nostalgic value.

So, will it sell? Hell yeah it will. Not sure about the minatures, but I know most of the older books will.

OMG, I never knew you were into that stuff. I never actually played the games, but I am a tres good painter, mainly warhammer fantasy stuff.

Keep your special pieces, sell the rest. Go for it!

Lotsa luv,

Rae
